Urine pregnancy test procedure / what is  hCG test?

(Immunochromatographic method or ICT method)
Urine pregnancy test or hCG test with the help of strip or immunochromatographic method or ICT method.

Specimen: Fresh urine.

  1. Urine should be taken in the cup or uretainers for pregnancy test. (If there is no cup or uretainers, urine should be taken in any clean container or test tube conveniently for testing.)
  2. With 1 strip of pregnancy test, the arrow-marked edge should be dipped in urine. A line (horizontal band) is given with the arrow mark so that urine does not rise on this line, that is, the bottom of this line of the strip should be dipped in the urine.
  3. Leave the strip in this position for 5-10 minutes.

Result of pregnancy:

  • Positive: Pregnancy test hCG test Positive if you see Control band + test band (two bands) in the middle of the strip.
  • Negative: Pregnancy test or hCG test negative if only control band is seen in the middle of the strip.
  • Invalid result: After a certain period of time, if the control band does not appear in the strip, then the result is invalid. Then the test has to be done again with a new strip. 
(Note: At present, pregnancy test can be done with the help of urine by strip of some companies and also pregnancy test (hCG) can be done with the help of serum or plasma.)
