Urine Bilirubin test procedure: Nitric Acid Test.

What is bilirubin?

The yellow substance that is produced during the normal process of breaking down red blood cells in the body; is called bilirubin.

Why to do this test or importance of that test:

  • To Diagnosis of liver diseases Such As-Hepatitis, Liver Cirrhosis or others 
  • To Detect Difficulty in structures to carrying bile from liver
  • To see prognosis of liver disease
  • Also Diagnose to red blood cell production problems

Urine Bilirubin Test Procedure (Nitric Acid Test):

  1. Take 2-3ml concentrated HNO3 (Nitric acid) in a 4 inch test tube.
  2. Add 2-3 ml urine in the same test tube.
  3. If green and blue or violet color is seen at the junction of urine and HNO3 (nitric acid) then reaction positive or bilirubin-present.
  4. If there is no change after giving urine with HNO3 (Nitric acid) then the reaction is negative Or bilirubin absent.
